How a Better Together Diabetes guide is made

I have had Type 1 since 1990, and my family, friends, teammates, and co-workers have lived it with me. I packed together all those diabetes years: the trips, the dinners, the unexpected exercise, the unscheduled desserts, surgery recoveries, great diabetes hacks, etc. and the difference it makes when the people around you are on the same team and with the same plans.

The creation process starts with mapping out diabetes stories on a whiteboard and finding the themes across the stories. The stories, hacks, and better together diabetes insights are dictated as voice notes. I turn the voice notes into a rough first draft that follows the structure of whatever content I am trying to make. This gets rough edited line by line by Trapper, then reviewed by an AI writing tool, and edited again by Trapper before it is published. Science & Research notes are at the end of most of the content that is created.

What I share is lived experience so you can design for yourself and your diabetes team from here on out. You can share your ideas you want to put into action with your care team, who is your lead for medical advice.

The writing and development model to create Better Together Diabetes started in 2023 and iterated into the current state which I noted above. The combination of being a credentialed researcher, teacher, scientist, coach, entrepreneur, and research impacts administrator has provided me with great backgrounds to gather diabetes stories. It has made it easy to identify as someone who has the disease, teaches about it, researches about it, cares about everyone it touches, and wrestles with the policies that could make things quite a bit better. Add to this being a type 1 diabetes dad, son, partner, uncle, brother, boss, co-worker, neighbor, teammate, and friend all squish together to help me do Better Together Diabetes work for and with you.
